POSITION OBJECTIVE: 


Plan and carry out activities for children in the Childcare programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Monitors children’s educational, recreational and rest activities, including hygiene and diapering.
• Works as a team member to guide and interact with children during age-appropriate projects/activities.
• Sets-up and implements nutritious snacks and meals.
• Encourages and provides appropriate guidelines for enabling parents to provide nutritious lunches for children.
• Assists in maintaining records of children’s daily activities including records of children’s daily health and hygiene; notes and logs any specific needs or changes in medication or schedule.
• Assists in maintaining a clean, organized and safe environment for children to explore and learn.
• Communicates effectively with staff; works effectively as a team member in planning and implementing appropriate activities.
• Assists with attendance and makes certain children depart appropriately and safely.
• Disinfects tables, toys and activity areas as required by differing age groups.
• Works with a varied population of children.
• Comforts and nurtures children in relaxed environment.
• Keeps current on emergency procedures, including child safety, fire and earthquake drills.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

• Reports directly to supervisor/evaluator.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent and experience working with children.
Preferred:

• ECE credentials preferred..

 

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

 

• Reading, writing, and arithmetic;
• Child development and behavior management;health, safety, injury prevention and sanitary practices.

 

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

 

• Observing child behavior changes and taking necessary health and safety precautions; oral communication;
• Maintaining accurate records.
• Ability to work with children in a warm and confident manner, individually and in group settings;
• Ability to maintain a nurturing environment for child development;
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team;
• Ability to mediate conflicts between children; maintain confidentiality;
• Ability to work with populations of students having diverse needs;
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and District and Legal requirements;
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

These are on-call positions. The number of days or hours that a Substitute Early Learning Educational Assistant works is dependent upon the number of contracted Early Learning Educational Assistant who are absent on any given day. No specific guarantee of work is offered. Early Learning Educational Assistant are not eligible for benefits.
