POSITION OBJECTIVE:

 

The position of Lead I is done for the purpose/s of providing guidance and field direction for installation, repair and maintenance to maintain a safe and secure learning environment in support of the mission of the District.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Performs the duties associated with the trade job description aligned to the skills of the employee.
• Lead I provides direction for up to four other employees. Lead I responsibilities are estimated to take no more than 20% of the total of the employee’s regular work time.
• Lead II provides direction for more than five other employees. Lead II responsibilities are estimated to take no more than 35% of the total employee’s regular work time.
• Provides guidance, assistance, direction and training to assigned work crew.
• Prioritizes work orders and assigns tasks to team members.
• Ensures work is completed in accordance with District standards and applicable building codes.
• Meets with supervisor(s) and other leads on a regular basis to plan work, review status of work orders, coordinate resources and address issues or concerns.
• Actively works in the field as required aligned with the skills of the employee.
• Estimates costs of labor and materials for special projects or projects that require pre-approval.
• Estimates completion dates for various projects and work orders.
• Ensures proper inventory of supplies, materials and tools.
• Adheres to all safety requirements associated with the position.
• Maintains records as required for the lead position.
• Utilizes electronic work order system.
• May be required to perform back up functions of other maintenance positions.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


• Reports directly to and is supervised by Manager, Facilities, Maintenance & Community Use
• Provides work direction to the designated crew assigned to the lead


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

Required
• High school diploma or GED
• 4 years’ experience working in a maintenance trade
• Vocational apprenticeship

Preferred
• Experience in school districts or other public sector setting
• Experience in general construction
• Experience in a supervisory or leadership position

Allowable Substitutions
• Type of experience may substitute for preferred experience in school districts

 

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

 

• Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Possesses trade licensure from Washington Department of Labor and Industries in the employee’s trade applicable.
• May be required to obtain trade licensure from Washington Department of Labor and Industries as required by the District.


KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

 

• Knowledge of District work order system and its use
• Knowledge of effective communication strategies for directing work
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
• Performs all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to follow technical instructions


SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

 

• Ability to direct work independently
• Ability to guide work performed by a team
• Possesses computer skills including work order systems to perform the essential duties of the position
• Ability to resolve conflicts and complaints from customers and other crew members
• Utilizes problem-solving skills as required for the position
• Demonstrates ability to follow technical instructions, including reading blueprints and other documents related to work projects
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Maintenance and Grounds salary classification C-1 ($ 32.89 per hour), 40 hours per week, for a 260-day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement that requires a membership or representation fee as an ongoing condition of continued employment after an individual is hired.
