POSITION OBJECTIVE:

 

The position of Field Operations Coordinator provides supervision for the Nutrition Services Department’s School Breakfast, Lunch, Afterschool Snack, At Risk Supper and Summer programs. Responsibilities include monitoring food preparation and service, providing hands-on training for employees needing assistance in production techniques, observing and evaluating food service employees to assure compliance with USDA regulations and to meet safety and sanitation requirements. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and delivering food and supplies as needed for catering events, field trips, snack programs, etc.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Supervise the day to day operation of the department’s school meal programs.
• Visits elementary and secondary kitchen facilities to monitor food preparation and service. Assists staff with food service operations, food and supply inventories and recordkeeping.
• Provides training for kitchen staff in operations, planning, production and sanitation.
• Monitors compliance with state and local health codes. Recommends improvements and solutions to problems.
• Monitors the department’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program.
• Assists in the delivery of food products from the central kitchen or warehouse for distribution to district kitchens.
• Conducts annual On Site Reviews for compliance with USDA Regulations.
• Acts as an on-site supervisor for catering events which may include evenings and weekends, when needed.
• Develops and presents annual performance evaluations as requested by the Nutrition Services Director.
• Organizes and conducts in-service trainings and workshops for staff.
• Provides backup assistance for Nutrition Services functions, such as cashiering or managing school kitchens in the absence of other staff members.
• Answers a variety of telephone calls and emails.
• Prepares kitchen work orders.
• Attends food service workshops and conferences to increase knowledge and awareness of new products and procedures.
• Assists in testing and evaluating of new menu items, equipment and new preparation methods.
• Maintains membership in our state and national professional associations to sustain knowledge in all aspects of child nutrition programs and requirements.
• Provides assistance to employees interested in pursuing and maintaining their membership and certification levels with the School Nutrition Association.
• Monitors bi-annual Health Department Inspection reports and employee renewals for Food Establishment permits.
• Performs other related duties as required consistent with the scope and intent of the position.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

• Reports directly to and is supervised by Nutrition Services Director.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

Required:
• High School graduation or GED.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in quantity food service operations.
• Minimum of one year experience as a kitchen manager or supervisor in a public or private organization.

Preferred:
• Management or supervisory experience with a school nutrition program.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

 

• Valid Washington State driver’s license
• Washington State food handlers permit
• SNA Level 1 Certification
• ServSafe Certification

 

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):


• Knowledge of food service equipment use, maintenance and cleaning.
• Knowledge of quantity food production and preparation
• Knowledge of food service production records and documentation.
• Knowledge of computer and office/food service software
• Knowledge of sanitation and safety standards, training and maintenance.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing school food service programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

CTSA salary level 3 ($ 57,000 - $60,000 annual salary), 40 hours per week, for a 260-day annual assignment. Benefits include retirement, medical, dental, vision, vacation, holidays, and other benefits according to Board policy.
