POSITION OBJECTIVE:

 

The position of Bus Driver/Driver Trainer is not only responsible for operating a school bus but also have the ability to successfully train new bus drivers for the transportation department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Have the ability to train new bus drivers.
• Have the ability to teach in a classroom setting.
• Keep your instructor’s certification updated.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

• Reports directly to the Transportation Coordinator in charge of training. Supervised by the Transportation Manager.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

Required:
• Minimum one year of school bus driver training.
• Maintaining driver trainer certification.

 

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

 

• Possess a valid Washington State Driver Trainer Certificate.
• Valid CPR/First Aid card.
• Current DOT physical.

 

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):


• Must have the ability to successfully train new bus drivers (classroom and on the road).
• Must have the ability to prepare new bus drivers to take the CDL test to obtain their CDL.
• Have to ability to teach in a classroom setting.
• Must be a team player.
• Must teach drivers according to state requirements.
• Have the ability to train during the summer.
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies, district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

May work outdoors in inclement weather. May require physical mobility to move through a school campus, including up and down stairs and inside and outside.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Transportation Personnel salary classification ($20.90 per hour during probation - $22.79 per hour after 90 work day probation), 20-40 hours per week, for a 180-day annual assignment.
Regular route employees work 20-40 hours per week and receive a generous benefits package according to Board policy. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement that requires a membership or representation fee as an ongoing condition of continued employment after an individual is hired.

• $1 premium pay for training.
• Driver Trainer hours are not guaranteed hours.
• Route/Sub driving is your primary responsibility.
