POSITION OBJECTIVE:


The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Curriculum translator for the Multilingual department and will be translating educational/instructional materials in Spanish, Mandarin Simplified, Arabic, Korean, and Hindi. Translation is the conversion of written information from one language into equivalent information in another language.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Translating educational/instructional materials, using specialized vocabulary
• Maintains confidentiality as legally required with a firm understanding of attorney/client relationships
• May be required to work extended hours or respond to deadlines with short turnaround time
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 

 

• Reports directly to Language Access Coordinator (Multilingual Language Learners Department) 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

 

Required:
• Advanced writing proficiency in designated language and English

 

Preferred:
• 1+ years of experience preferred in an educational environment
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred

 

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

 

• None

 

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

 

• Knowledge of the educational system in the United States
• Knowledge of the cultural beliefs and values of the relevant populations.
• Knowledge of how to change translations form Kinder to 12th grade
• Knowledge of basic terminology along with specialized vocabulary related to curriculum and local, state, and federal programs and policies.

 

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

 

• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to convey meaning rather than word-for-word translations.
• Ability to accurately convey meaning without editing, summarizing, adding, or omitting meaning, using correct grammar and vocabulary
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work
• Possesses strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
• Maintains integrity and confidentiality of information obtained
• Possesses effective customer service skills as required for the position
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to work with diverse populations effectively and collaboratively

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a general posting for one or more positions. Positions are temporary hourly, with no benefits. Hourly rate $ 30 per hour. No specific guarantee of work is offered.
