POSITION OBJECTIVE:

 

The position of Preschool Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing instructional support, implementing planned activities and ensuring safety of children in preschool.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Monitors the educational, recreational and rest activities of children, including hygiene and diapering as needed.
• Ensures that children are auditorily and visually supervised at all times.
• Works as a team member to guide and interact with children during age/developmentally appropriate projects and activities.
• Ensures children arrive and depart appropriately and safely.
• Assists in maintaining a clean, organized and safe environment for children.
• Communicates effectively with staff.
• Works effectively as a team member in planning and implementing appropriate activities.
• Works with a varied population of children, including children with special needs.
• Comforts and nurtures children.
• Keeps current on emergency procedures, including child safety drills.
• Attends staff meetings and professional development trainings.
• Assists in maintaining records of children’s daily activities which may include incident/accident reports, medication logs, sign in/out sheets, etc.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

 

• Reading, writing, arithmetic
• Child development and behavior management; health, safety, injury prevention and sanitary practices.
• Understands safety procedures for students and staff

• Observes child behavior changes and take necessary health and safety precautions
• Ability to work with children in a warm and confident manner; individually and in group settings
• Works effectively as a member of a team
• Maintains confidentiality
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


These are on-call positions. The number of days or hours that a substitute works is dependent upon the number of staff in the postion who are absent on any given day. No specific guarantee of work is offered. The rate of pay is $ 25.08/hour. Substitutes are not eligible for benefits until they work 630 hours in a certain school year.
