POSITION OBJECTIVE:


The primary purpose of this position is providing effective written family communications translation services in other languages than English.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)


• Translating using specialized vocabulary
• Maintains confidentiality as legally required with a firm understanding of attorney/client relationships
• May be required to work extended hours or respond to deadlines with short turnaround time Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


• Reports directly to Language Access Coordinator (Multilingual Language Learners department)

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):


Required:
• Bilingual in English and at least one other language

Preferred:
• Previous experience providing translation support
• Previous experience working with children and/or adults in a learning environment

 

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
• None


KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):


• Translator has an Advanced -Mid proficiency of the target language and in English.
• Translator has an Advanced writing proficiency.
• Translator conveys meaning rather than word-for-word translations.
• Translator has knowledge of the cultural aspects of both language groups.

 

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):


• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills in English and designated language
• Ability to convey meaning rather than word-for-word translations.
• Proofreading of previously translated material with expectation to edit, revise, and adapt materials accordingly.
• Ability to accurately convey meaning without editing, summarizing, adding, or omitting meaning, using correct grammar and vocabulary
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work
• Possesses strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
• Maintains integrity and confidentiality of information obtained
• Possesses effective customer service skills as required for the position
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to work with diverse populations effectively and collaboratively

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a general posting for one or more positions. Positions are temporary, hourly on-demand/as needed, with no benefits.


• Hourly rate for Language Access Translators $ 25 per hour
• Position is remote, some in-person training will be required
• Verification of language proficiency
• Completion of required training
